by Vana Eliezer - Headgirl 1976

Our dear heavenly Father,

We, the community of Chundikuli Girls’ College join our hearts together to give you praise and thanks for your faithfulness in the 125 years’ journey of our wonderful School. We acknowledge that CGC is your gracious and marvellous gift to us reflecting your heart to bless us. We also acknowledge that you the Almighty God who sent your only Son, our Lord Jesus Christ is continuing your work of redemption and reconciliation through schools like Chundikuli.

While proclaiming your faithfulness, we also admit that there are times we have not acknowledged you as the Author and Sustainer of Chundikuli Girls’ College and may have failed to seek your wisdom in all that we do. Gracious Father, we humbly seek your patient forgiveness for the times we may have taken too much pride in our achievements forgetting to give you the glory.

Today, on the 125th anniversary we give you thanks for the people who faithfully and relentlessly served you through CGC. We give you thanks for our founding principal the late Mrs Mary Carter and others like Ms Page, Ms Northway, Ms Goodchild, Ms. Willis, Ms. Hutchins, Ms. Kelk, Ms. Mathai and others who obeyed your call to serve in the School. From a single ground floor verandah of St John’s College bungalow to the multiple double storied

buildings, from nine to nearly seventeen hundred children and from just one Mrs Carter to one hundred teachers, Lord, there is no limit to your gracious provision. You are the unstoppable God.

Loving Father, you’ve propelled the school through many a stormy weather such as the threat of government takeover, the horrific trauma of Civil War, the chaos of COVID pandemic and many other adversities. CGC has marched on true to its motto, “Forward”. From missionaries across the seas to nationals of Sri Lanka and to CGC’s own daughters, they have steered the school forward broadening the scope of education and inculcating godly values in the students. We thank you very specially for the principals Mrs Chelliah, Mrs Jeyaweerasingham, Mrs Rajaratnam and Mrs Thuseetharan who have led the School with wisdom, courage and perseverance through the intensely challenging periods.

Gracious and loving Shepherd, we ask that you continue to guide our Principal Mrs Thuseetharan, the Vice Principals Mrs Sahayaseelan and Mrs Nesakumar and all others in leadership so that they will be able to make decisions in step with your plan and purposes for the School and in the light of eternity. May the CMS Governing Body be faithful to your calling to govern the School in keeping with the Christian principles and to support the principals to be in step with the vision of our founders.

Almighty Father, encourage and empower our students to grow into women who because of their education and their time at CGC will live a life of purpose. Make them women of conviction, courage and caring of others, making a difference wherever they go. We also pray that the parent of present students alumni living all around the world and other well-wishers will continue to work together with the leadership for the betterment of the School and for your glory.

May your presence and your peace be with CGC until eternity and for your glory.

We ask all these in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen
